Below you will find the review of Kids Crew by our two daughters and us. Kids Crew is marketed as everything a kid could want, lots of activities split by age group, movies, games, trained counselors and more.
We have use Kids Crew type arrangements on Disney before and the girls love them. Our hopes were high on for NCL's version.
The kids both enjoyed the time the spent in the program, however they did opt out on several occasions to take part in the adult activities such as hula lessons and lei making. Below the girls describe what they did each time they visited.
The program for cruise can be found here. When you read it you will see many items which are underlined. These are family activities and require at least one parent to be present. What this meant was almost impossible to do many things on board without the kids. A movie was out of the question, as the afternoon only provide 1 hour and 45 minutes of club time. Evenings would provide 3 hours, but once you ate and did a show, times up.
Our experience with Disney was much different. Here the kids could spend as much time as they and we liked in the kids program. Even meal times were covered. If the kids did not want to go ashore, they have activities on board. Many parents on Disney actually complained that they couldn't get their kids to go on shore excursions.
Longer hours at night were available for a fee, but since our kids needed to sleep, we chose not to take advantage of this. Also for a fee, you could use them as baby sitters during port time, but no formal activities were planned.
If given the choice between NCL and Disney for the same ports, I would choose Disney for their kids program alone. When my kids are teens, my view may change.
Parents Night Out is something they advertise as part of the package. What does that mean? Well, seems no one knows. We called NCL before sailing and the representative tried to find an answer, but finally stated we would have to ask on board. We asked the staff ant the Kids Crew and they had never heard of it.
| The Martian Pit as the girls call it. A large padded area where they played many games. | |
| The computer area. I believe there was one or two more computers. If they had a lot of kids, this would be difficult. | |
| The video room had bean bag seating that kids always seem to enjoy. This room looks to be able to hold between 20-30 kids. | |
| The ball pit is very similar to the standard type thing you would find at a fast food place. My youngest said is was much better than a regular ball pit, but could not explain why. |
